We’re fast becoming a semi-regular feature when it comes to appearing in British media with the prospective upcoming games against Reading XL being a real excitement generator among English football fans in particular.
Manager Kitsons vision coming to life….
In an article published earlier this year we explained that Nauru manager, Dave Kitson, has long been adamant that the legacy we are starting in Nauru is to improve the general health of every local and that football is merely the vehicle in which we deliver said legacy.
The former premier league footballer and Reading legend Kitson is heavily involved in developing initiatives that use football to benefit local communities and/or greater society. The Reading XL team fit the bill perfectly.
ITV News Feature…
The Reading XL team and Kitson were recently featured on UK media outlet ITV (click link below) to add another prestigious media outlet to the list alongside; BBC, Forbes & World Soccer magazine plus many more to have taken an interest in our project.
The challenges ahead can be conquered….
The biggest challenge ahead for all parties involved is generating the funding for the Reading XL team to make the journey across the world to the tiny Pacific island of Nauru to be the first ever competitive game they ever play. The fundraising has already begun with $50k the benchmark and many events planned over the coming months to help achieve this goal.
In the meantime the NSF have the kit launch, training camp and launch of the futsal league all in the pipelines with Technical Director Pomroy due to be on the island later this year. He quoted;
“It sometimes feels like things are moving slower than we want but I can assure you things are moving and we need to be thankful and optimistic about them. Most of our team are scattered across the globe at present which never makes things easier but we’re all certain that is we keep to our plan and keep working hard we can achieve our personal goals and help secure Reading XL a trip to remember to Nauru. Hopefully a return leg the year after 😉”
