Nauru will feature at the summer Olympics, held in Paris, for the 8th time with Winzar Kakiouea competing in the showpiece Olympic event; The 100m.
An Olympic History In The Making….
Nauru first appeared at the Olympics in 1996 with three athletes all appearing in weightlifting events. One quiz question for the ages; can you make the Olympian that became president of Nauru?
Marcus Stephens, who also represented Samoa in 1992, returned in 2000 to represent Nauru again and then was elected president of the island from 2007-2011.
Sheeva Peo became the first women to represent Nauru at the Olympics in Sydney 2000 finishing 10th overall.
The country has competed in 100m, weightlifting and judo in their 8 appearances at the summer Olympics with a medal win yet to materialize.
In Paris 2024 we have the honor of being the smallest Olympic team with all the countries hopes pinned on Kakiouea.
The NSF Under The Olympic Umbrella….
The Nauru Soccer Federation falls under the umbrella of the Olympics committee on the island and whilst we control our own movements and progression the collective governing bodies are all pulling in the same direction to ensure sport in Nauru is growing.
